Quick Bites: Salmon Tikka with Cucumber Yogurt

I feel like I’m constantly journaling my ineptitude with these recipes. For every reasonably decent picture, there is a “yeah, but I accidentally” admission. And Truth-Fest 2K10 continues, kids! This time it’s the fact that I can’t count. Try as I might, I just don’t know what’s supposed to come after four (eighteen? thirty-twelve? yellow?). My trouble with the maths reared its miscalculated head when I purchased salmon for this meal. I honestly don’t know what happened, but I ended up purchasing twice as much as the recipe called for. So yeah, I just kept cooking it and now I have ample amounts of leftovers. But on to the recipe.

This is a nicely simple dish from Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution book (although you can also find the recipe on his website. I’ll cut to the chase and say that this was wonderfully tasty. Although not light in portion size, it has a fresh and non-heavy flavor to it that won’t leave you feeling comatose when you’re done. And for those who know my history with yogurt, I considered myself very brave for taking on this recipe. And I liked it!
The thing I didn’t like was that the high heat necessary for searing the salmon caused my kitchen to smoke up, and pronto. Somehow I managed to part the curtains of smoke just long enough to finish things up and put it all on a plate. (Note to self: crack a window, yo.)
When last we left you, I teased a new feature/series/focus for the website related to a new cookery book of almost mythic girth. A thousand-page testament to food on paper that we would not only use in exercise by simply picking up, but also something that we would be cooking from. And I’m here to tell you a little bit more about that.
